RA Power Solutions recently completed a challenging Daihatsu 5DK-20 Crankshaft Repair onboard a vessel during a short 18-hour stop at Mundra Port, India. Crankpin No. 03 had suffered severe damage, including deep bearing marks, 0.49 mm ovality, and damage to the radius fillets on both sides.
Our technicians carried out hardness and crack detection tests before starting the machining work. The crankpin was found suitable for repair. Using specially designed portable equipment and compact tooling, the damaged crankpin was carefully machined without removing the crankshaft from the engine.
The crankpin diameter was reduced by 1.0 mm, bringing the final diameter to 169.00 mm. The machining tolerance was maintained within 0.02 mm, and the correct radius fillets were restored on both sides.
The Daihatsu 5DK-20 Crankshaft Repair was successfully completed within the vessel’s limited port stay, helping the owners avoid extended downtime.
