RA Power Solutions was approached by a leading shipping company based in Vietnam after serious damage was reported to the Intermediate Shaft and Intermediate Shaft Bearing while the vessel was approaching Kochi Port, India.
On inspection, excessive damage, localized marks, and roughness were observed on the Intermediate Shaft Journal. The standard journal diameter was 505.00 MM, with ovality of 0.38 MM. Hardness and MPI tests were within limits. Intermediate Shaft Repair was carried out using an in situ grinding and polishing machine, maintaining the journal diameter at 504.00 MM.
The damaged Babbitt white metal bearing was removed and transported to our facility near New Delhi. It was rebabbitted using the centrifugal process and machined to an inner diameter of 504.50 MM. The bearing was then returned to Kochi Port for assembly and final checks.
