The story of Seiko watches is closely connected with the development of modern Japanese watchmaking. It began in 1881, when Kintaro Hattori opened a watch and clock shop in Tokyo. Eleven years later, he established the Seikosha factory, marking an important step toward domestic watch production. One of the most significant chapters in the history of Seiko watches came in 1969 with the introduction of the Seiko Astron, recognised by Seiko as the world’s first quartz watch. Seiko continued exploring electronic technology afterward, introducing innovations including LCD and multifunction digital watches.

This period demonstrated Seiko’s willingness to challenge traditional approaches rather than limiting itself to mechanical watchmaking.

Seiko’s innovation did not stop with quartz. The company continued developing mechanical, quartz, Kinetic, Spring Drive, and GPS Solar technologies. Its Kinetic technology, for example, uses human movement to generate electrical power, while Spring Drive combines mechanical energy with electronic regulation.
