The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has announced the OCS Prelims 2026 for June 7, and with 465 total vacancies up for grabs, it is one of the most sought-after state civil services exams in eastern India. The OPSC OCS 2026 Preliminary Examination consists of two papers: General Studies and the Odia Language test. The General Studies paper is objective-type and covers a wide range of subjects including history, geography, Indian polity, economy, science and technology, and current affairs. The Odia Language paper tests your understanding of grammar and comprehension, and qualifying marks must be secured separately.
Eligibility: Candidates must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university. The age limit for general candidates is 21-38 years, with relaxation for SC/ST/OBC categories as per Odisha government norms.
Preparation Strategy for OCS Prelims in the remaining time:
Current Affairs is the most dynamic section. Since Odisha-specific events carry significant weight, candidates should focus on state government schemes, infrastructure projects, and tribal welfare initiatives alongside national developments.
For Polity and Governance, NCERT books from Class 9 to 12 provide a solid foundation. Supplement this with the Indian Polity book by M Laxmikanth – especially chapters on state legislatures, Panchayati Raj, and constitutional bodies.
For Odisha-specific GK, follow Odisha government press releases, budget highlights, and recent appointments to constitutional bodies.
Attempt at least 3 full-length mock tests before June 7. Analyse each test to identify recurring weak areas. Time management is key – the exam is 2 hours, and each question should ideally not exceed 90 seconds.
